Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has praised the nation's athletes for their recent international achievements, highlighting their role in elevating Mexico's global standing. Sheinbaum emphasized that the 'Fourth Transformation' (4T) has restored the dignity of the Mexican people, providing her with the strength to negotiate firmly with other world leaders, including former U.S. President Donald Trump, particularly following a 90-day tariff truce. Among the athletes recognized are Isaac del Toro, Osmar Olvera, Randal Willars, and the twin divers Lía and Mía Cueva, who returned to Mexico City after podium finishes at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. Osmar Olvera, the world champion diver, expressed ambitions for future competitions, including the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, and requested increased financial support from Sheinbaum to retain his coach, Ma Jin. Diego Villalobos, a bronze medalist in artistic swimming at the same championships, also aims to qualify for the 2028 Olympics. The international success of Mexican athletes in disciplines such as diving, cycling, and artistic swimming underscores a new era in Mexico's sports performance on the world stage.
