Following his arrest, a judge in Colombia determined that the State, specifically the National Protection Unit (UNP), bears responsibility for the attack due to omission, citing that more than 20 requests made by Uribe Turbay to improve his security protection were denied. The judge's ruling highlights a failure by the State to provide adequate protection to the senator and presidential hopeful despite repeated appeals. The case remains under investigation as authorities continue to piece together the planning and execution of the assassination attempt.
