Two armed suspects remain at large after a dramatic, hour-long police pursuit criss-crossed Los Angeles late Sunday, 11 August. The chase began in the San Fernando Valley when Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies spotted a stolen pickup truck; authorities say at least one shot was fired at California Highway Patrol officers during the initial pursuit. After ramming a tanker truck on Interstate 5, the suspects forced its driver out and continued south in the rig, which officials said was believed to be carrying milk and posed no hazardous-materials risk. The truck was driven into downtown Los Angeles, at times circling high-rise blocks before entering Interstate 10 in the wrong direction and weaving through oncoming traffic. Shortly after 11:30 p.m. the pair abandoned the tanker, carjacked a white pickup, and later commandeered a fourth vehicle in Boyle Heights, where officers lost visual contact. Investigators recovered a firearm from the first stolen pickup but reported no serious injuries during the incident. The Los Angeles Police Department and California Highway Patrol describe the suspects as “armed and dangerous” and have asked the public for information. No arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon.
