Baltimore Police officer Curlon Edwards, 34, has been arrested and charged with first- and second-degree rape, two counts of assault, reckless endangerment and false imprisonment after a 16-year-old girl told investigators he choked and raped her at his downtown apartment on Monday. According to charging documents, the girl—who said she had been dating Edwards since March—was taken to the officer’s residence on the 100 block of North Howard Street. After accusing her of infidelity, Edwards allegedly seized her phone, placed her in a chokehold until she briefly lost consciousness, prevented her from leaving and later handed her his service weapon, urging her to shoot him. He then forced her to have sex a second time and later drove her to Walmart to buy concealer for her injuries, the documents say. Edwards, hired by the department in 2023, has been suspended without pay. A judge ordered him held without bail on Tuesday, with a formal bail review scheduled for Wednesday. Court records do not yet list an attorney for the officer.
