A 22-year veteran of the San José Police Department has been arrested on multiple child-sexual-assault charges stemming from incidents that allegedly occurred more than a decade ago. Officer Saul Duran was taken into custody on Monday and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on five felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor, the department said. Prosecutors allege Duran assaulted two sisters between 2008 and 2012 after meeting them through the county-run Parent Project, a program that supports parents of troubled teenagers. Charges were filed only for the younger sister because the statute of limitations bars prosecution of some of the alleged conduct involving the older sibling, according to District Attorney Jeff Rosen. Duran was released after posting $250,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned on Aug. 7. Police Chief Paul Joseph placed the officer on administrative leave and said the department has launched a review of programs involving minors. The case has also been referred to California’s Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, which could move to revoke Duran’s law-enforcement certification.
