The Santa Clara County Coroner on Thursday identified the body recovered the previous evening near Anderson Lake County Park in Morgan Hill as 18-year-old Marissa DiNapoli, who had been reported missing earlier in the week. DiNapoli last communicated with her family on June 28 and was seen the following morning leaving a Trail Drive residence with 26-year-old Martin Mendoza, according to Morgan Hill police. When she failed to return home, relatives filed a missing-person report on Monday. Family members and volunteers located a body beneath a bridge at the reservoir on Wednesday while using drones to aid the search, prompting sheriff’s deputies to secure the scene. Investigators have named Mendoza—described as DiNapoli’s former boyfriend—as a person of interest after he declined to cooperate. He is believed to be driving a white Toyota Camry bearing California license plates CW87W00 or 9PTM351. Authorities urged anyone with information to contact Detective Kyle Tolentino at 669-253-4962 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. A candlelight vigil is scheduled Thursday evening near the recovery site. DiNapoli’s family asked for privacy as the investigation continues.
