The Polk County Sheriff’s Department arrested 18-year-old Dayton Schaffer after he allegedly made three late-night phone calls threatening to “shoot up” a McDonald’s in north Lakeland, Florida, because his US$5 meal deal was prepared incorrectly. Investigators traced the calls, placed at about 11:30 p.m. on 30 June, to Schaffer and detained him on 2 July. Schaffer admitted to detectives that he placed the calls and said the threats were meant as a joke, according to the sheriff’s office. He is charged with making a false report involving the use of a firearm, a second-degree felony, and with misuse of a two-way communication device, a third-degree felony.
