A 59-year-old North Texas man has been taken into custody after a road-rage shooting that left a seven-year-old boy injured on State Highway 121 in Grapevine. Grapevine police said John Schwoyer was arrested around 2:15 a.m. Friday at his home in nearby Flower Mound and booked on a count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Investigators allege Schwoyer opened fire on a pickup truck carrying a family of five about 8 p.m. Thursday. A bullet shattered the truck’s window, sending glass into the face of the child, who was treated and released from hospital. An adult passenger sustained minor cuts, while two other children in the vehicle were unhurt. The child’s father, who was driving, returned fire and relayed the suspect’s licence-plate number to 911 while following the Infiniti sedan. Officers traced the vehicle to Schwoyer’s residence and, with support from Flower Mound Police and the Northeast Tarrant County Area SWAT Team, negotiated his surrender after deploying drones and establishing a perimeter. Schwoyer initially denied being on the highway, according to an arrest affidavit. Police have not disclosed what sparked the confrontation. The case remains under investigation, and bond information was not immediately available.
