A series of unrelated crashes crippled Denver-area highways during Friday’s morning commute, sending at least four people to hospital and forcing authorities to shut sections of Interstates 25 and 70, U.S. 6 and city arterials. Denver Police said the most serious incident involved a wrong-way driver on westbound Sixth Avenue at North Osage Street around dawn; two people were transported in critical condition and the roadway remained closed for several hours. On South Broadway near 28th Street, investigators issued a Medina Alert after a gold Toyota Camry fled the scene of a collision that seriously injured a motorcyclist. Officers urged anyone with information to come forward as they searched for the vehicle and its driver. Farther south, Colorado State Patrol responded to a 6:25 a.m. rollover on southbound I-25 at Castle Rock Parkway. The solo driver, complaining of chest pain, was taken to hospital while the highway was reduced to a single lane, causing backups that stretched to Castle Pines. All lanes reopened roughly an hour later. Additional crashes closed westbound I-70 at Central Park Boulevard and both directions of U.S. 6 about four miles west of Golden, compounding regional congestion. Authorities advised commuters to seek alternate routes and to expect residual delays while investigations continue.
