A shooting at the University of New Mexico’s Casas del Rio dormitory complex in Albuquerque early Friday left one person dead and another wounded, university officials said. The injured victim’s wounds are not considered life-threatening. An initial alert was issued around 3 a.m., and by about 6:30 a.m. the university ordered a lockdown of its central campus and told students and staff to shelter in place. Authorities warned that the gunman may still be on university grounds. Multiple law-enforcement agencies are searching for the suspect and have opened an investigation into the attack. The state’s flagship public university, which serves roughly 23,000 students during the academic year, remains closed while police secure the area and gather evidence.
