President Donald Trump on 5 Aug 2025 signed an executive order establishing a White House task force that will coordinate federal preparations for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. The inter-agency group is charged with overseeing security, visa processing and credentialing for athletes, officials and spectators, according to the order released by the White House. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt said the president "considers it a great honor to oversee this global sporting spectacle in his second term." LA28 chair Casey Wasserman welcomed the move, calling it "an important step forward in our planning efforts." The Games are scheduled to open in July 2028, the final year of Trump’s current term. The directive forms part of a wider sports agenda by the administration. Last week Trump reestablished the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, but Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley publicly declined an invitation to join the 30-member body.
