Finnish police said four people were stabbed on Thursday afternoon outside the Ratina shopping centre in central Tampere, about 180 kilometres northwest of Helsinki. The victims were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and no deaths were reported. Officers arrested a suspect at the scene within minutes of the attack. Local media, citing police sources, identified the detainee as a Finnish man in his twenties. In a written statement, police added that the situation was under control, the area had been reopened and the public faced no continuing danger. Investigators said there was no evidence that the assault was motivated by terrorism or racism, but they have not yet disclosed a possible motive. The stabbing temporarily blocked traffic around Finland’s third-largest city and prompted a cordon at the mall while officers interviewed witnesses and collected evidence.
