Amazon’s streaming service Prime Video began carrying the full line-up of France Télévisions channels and on-demand programming on 3 July, under a distribution agreement the two companies describe as “historic.” French Prime subscribers can now watch live streams of France 2, France 3, France 4, France 5 and the rolling-news channel franceinfo, as well as nearly 20,000 titles from the public broadcaster’s france.tv platform, without paying an additional fee or leaving the Prime Video interface. France Télévisions chief executive Delphine Ernotte-Cunci said the arrangement marks “a historic step” that will extend the visibility of the group’s public-service offering, particularly among younger viewers who favour streaming services. France.tv attracted 42.9 million unique visitors in June, making it the country’s most-visited free streaming site. Christophe Deguine, general manager of Prime Video in France, said the deal supports Amazon’s goal of broadening its local content line-up and reinforcing Prime Video’s position “as the No. 1 entertainment destination.” Financial terms and the duration of the partnership were not disclosed. The move intensifies competition in France’s video-on-demand market and comes just two weeks after commercial broadcaster TF1 unveiled a similar arrangement that will see its channels appear on Netflix from the summer of 2026. Prime Video, which entered France in 2016, counted about 1.4 million daily users in the country in late 2023, versus 4.6 million for Netflix, according to industry data.
