Paris police arrested four men on Wednesday in connection with a widely circulated video that showed a woman being violently attacked during the Fête de la Musique celebrations on 21 June. The suspects, aged 22 to 28 and all from the Île-de-France region, were detained after investigators traced their mobile-phone activity, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office. Footage from the incident shows an assailant in a blue T-shirt kicking a woman in the face while she lay on the ground. A second man wearing a Paris Saint-Germain jersey and a third in a multicoloured shirt are seen knocking her down, then seizing her handbag, which a fourth individual carries away. The same attacker in blue is also filmed striking two other people. The three victims have been identified and have filed complaints; two were issued five days of medical leave by a forensic unit. Authorities initially identified two of the suspects when they returned to the scene to retrieve a dropped phone, but lacked sufficient evidence to detain them until the video analysis and telecom data corroborated their involvement. The four men are being held for questioning on charges of aggravated assault and theft. The investigation, led by the Sûreté territoriale de Paris, is continuing to determine the precise roles of each suspect and whether additional accomplices were involved.
