A high-speed TGV operating the Bordeaux-Paris route struck and fatally injured a person on the tracks shortly after leaving Bordeaux at 20:50 on Sunday, 29 June, according to information provided on board and reported by AFP and French media. The impact halted the train near its point of departure, bringing in firefighters, gendarmes, judicial police and funeral services. Passengers remained stationary for more than four hours while emergency teams worked and damage to the train was assessed. The driver, described by crew members as visibly shaken, was relieved of duty. Because the train could no longer continue, SNCF sent the set back to Bordeaux, where travellers transferred to a replacement TGV around 02:20. The substitute service left at about 02:50 and reached Paris-Montparnasse at 05:25 on Monday, extending the journey to more than eight hours and leaving customers over six hours late. SNCF said an investigation is under way and that passengers qualify for delay-related compensation under the operator’s punctuality guarantees.
