Alain Duhamel presented his final daily programme on BFMTV on Thursday, drawing tributes from Prime Minister François Bayrou, fellow journalists and family members. Bayrou, appearing as the featured guest, praised the 85-year-old commentator as “someone with both knowledge and conscience,” noting Duhamel’s six-decade commitment to anchoring political debate in factual analysis and the public interest. Colleagues including his nephew, journalist Benjamin Duhamel, and longtime friend Catherine Nay highlighted the influence of the veteran broadcaster, whose career has spanned every presidency of the Fifth Republic from Charles de Gaulle to Emmanuel Macron. Over the years, Duhamel fronted landmark programmes such as “Cartes sur Table” and “L’Heure de Vérité,” and contributed columns across radio, television and print. While Thursday marked the end of his daily slot, BFMTV said Duhamel will continue to appear in other formats. His departure closes a chapter in French political journalism even as audiences are likely to hear his commentary on an occasional basis.
