The Vancouver Canucks have acquired forward Evander Kane from the Edmonton Oilers for a 2025 fourth-round draft pick, the clubs confirmed Wednesday. Vancouver will absorb the full US$5.125 million cap charge on the final season of Kane’s four-year, $20.5 million contract, and Edmonton retains no salary. Oilers general manager Ken Holland gains immediate financial flexibility ahead of free agency, while Canucks GM Patrik Allvin called Kane “a physical power forward who will add much-needed size and toughness.” Agent Dan Milstein said three teams pursued the deal, but the 33-year-old winger chose his hometown club. Kane himself broke the news in a social-media farewell, thanking Edmonton and saying he was “incredibly excited” to play in Vancouver. Kane missed the entire 2024-25 regular season after abdominal and knee surgeries but returned to post six goals and six assists in 21 playoff games during Edmonton’s second straight Stanley Cup Final run. Over 16 NHL seasons with five franchises, the former fourth-overall draft pick has amassed 326 goals and 291 assists in 930 regular-season games.
Lots of discussion between Kings & Andrei Kuzmenko. KH said both sides would prefer a short-term deal. A big factor in wanting to stay is his relationship with Jim Hiller. The player appreciated still being relied on even after going scoreless in his first 7 games. Meant a lot.

Evander Kane is exactly the “player” the Canucks need. But as @imacSportsnet writes, Vancouver's acquisition of the veteran forward comes with its fair share of risk, too. https://t.co/0K1a9OTcnI
