The San Antonio Spurs have acquired veteran stretch big man Kelly Olynyk from the Washington Wizards in exchange for guards Malaki Branham, Blake Wesley and a 2026 second-round pick that will be the least favorable of the Dallas Mavericks, Philadelphia 76ers or Oklahoma City Thunder selections, according to multiple reports. Olynyk, 34, is entering the final season of a $13.5 million contract and gives San Antonio a floor-spacing front-court option alongside or behind 2024-25 Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama and recent signee Luke Kornet. The deal keeps the Spurs roughly $12 million below the luxury-tax line, though they still must add at least two players to reach the NBA’s 14-man roster minimum before opening night. For Washington, the trade brings in two 22-year-old former first-round picks whose rookie contracts run through 2025-26 and are extension-eligible until 20 October. Moving Olynyk also creates a $13.5 million trade exception and widens the club’s tax and apron buffer, giving the rebuilding Wizards additional flexibility to absorb salary or pursue other deals later in the off-season.
