Two separate electrocution incidents in southern India have resulted in the deaths of two teenagers. In Chennai, Tamil Nadu, a 17-year-old student died after stepping on an underground live electrical cable submerged in stagnant rainwater on a waterlogged street. Residents have blamed the local power board for the incident, which was caused by a power leakage from the underground cable. In Kollam, Kerala, a 13-year-old Class VIII student named Midhun from Thevalakkara Boys High School was electrocuted at school while fetching footwear from the rooftop, coming into contact with a live wire. Kerala's Minister K Krishnankutty has ordered a detailed investigation by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) into the incident, with further action pending the report.
