Delhi Police Arrest Boyfriend After Teen Drinks Acid Post-Assault

Delhi Police have arrested a 22-year-old man, Md Rehan, after his 19-year-old girlfriend drank acid in an apparent suicide attempt and accused him of sexual assault. The incident occurred on 18 June at the victim’s home in southwest Delhi’s Vasant Kunj, where a neighbour found her in distress and took her to hospital. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel, the teenager told her mother that Rehan had raped her on the promise of marriage and blackmailed her with compromising photographs. Investigators recovered an acid bottle from the residence and seized the victim’s mobile phone, which forensic analysis later confirmed contained voice recordings supporting the allegations. Based on the mother’s complaint, police on 25 June registered a case under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Rehan, an unemployed resident of Rangpuri Pahari who previously worked as a loader at Delhi airport, was taken into custody the same day. The victim remains hospitalised at Safdarjung Hospital. Further investigation is under way.
