Police in Lucknow have arrested Jagdeep Singh, a resident of Unnao, for the fatal stabbing of his parents-in-law, 75-year-old Anant Ram and 73-year-old Asha Devi, at their home in Alambagh’s Garhi Kanora locality on the evening of 2 July. Investigators said Singh went to the house to persuade his wife Poonam, who had been living with her parents since April after a prolonged marital dispute, to return with him. An argument escalated and Singh allegedly pulled out a knife, first attacking Anant Ram and then Asha Devi. Neighbours overpowered the suspect and turned him over to police. The weapon has been recovered, and post-mortem examinations have been ordered. DCP Central Ashish Srivastava said a case of double murder has been registered and officers are questioning family members and witnesses as part of an ongoing investigation.
