The New Delhi Municipal Council opened its annual Mango Festival, branded ‘Khaas-ye-Aam’, at the Palika Services Officers’ Institute in Chanakyapuri on 5 July. NDMC vice-chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal inaugurated the event, which features more than 513 varieties of mango grown across India and abroad. Chahal said the council aims to showcase lesser-known cultivars and promote cultivation techniques that have enabled exotic species to be adapted to Indian conditions. The exhibition will also highlight upcoming initiatives modelled on ‘Operation Sindoor’, a programme that encourages farmers to introduce new fruit strains.
