Veteran stunt coordinator SM Raju was killed on 13 July while executing a high-speed car-toppling sequence for ‘Vettuvan’, an upcoming Tamil-language film directed by Pa Ranjith and starring actor Arya. The crash occurred during morning shooting in Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu, when the vehicle he was driving overturned and crumpled, according to video footage that later circulated online. Raju, a long-time fixture in Kollywood action productions, was pulled from the wreckage but succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Industry colleagues, including actor Vishal, confirmed the death and expressed condolences, with Vishal pledging financial support to the stuntman’s family. The production has not yet issued a formal statement. Local authorities are expected to review safety protocols on the set as part of the routine inquiry that follows on-set fatalities.
