A motorcyclist was killed Thursday evening after losing control on the elevated ramp that links Union Park Avenue to westbound Interstate 215 in Midvale, Utah, according to the Utah Highway Patrol. Investigators say the rider was travelling north on Union Park Avenue at about 6:28 p.m. when he failed to negotiate the curve, struck a concrete barrier and was launched roughly 30 feet onto the roadway below. He was pronounced dead at the scene; his name has not been released. Lt. Cameron Roden said excessive speed is believed to have contributed to the crash. Both north- and south-bound ramps from Union Park Avenue to I-215 were closed for several hours while troopers examined the scene and cleared debris. The ramps have since reopened, and the investigation is ongoing.
