Global financial markets are starting the week with a focus on US-China trade talks in London and the release of key inflation data. Asian equities and US stock futures showed modest gains, buoyed by better-than-expected US jobs data, while the dollar held steady against major currencies. The US delegation to the trade talks includes Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, and Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, while China is represented by Vice Premier He Lifeng. The discussions are expected to center on tariffs, with the US currently imposing a 145% tariff on Chinese goods and China maintaining a 125% tariff on US goods, although recent meetings have seen these rates reduced to averages of 51% and 32.6% respectively. Investors are awaiting US inflation data, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) due on Wednesday and the Producer Price Index (PPI) on Thursday. Consensus forecasts point to a 0.2% month-on-month rise in CPI and a 2.3% annual increase. In India, markets are set for a positive start following a strong close last week, supported by a larger-than-expected rate cut by the Reserve Bank of India and continued institutional buying. The Nifty 50 closed at 25,003.05 and the Sensex at 82,188.99 on June 6. GIFT Nifty futures indicate further gains, trading around 25,166 ahead of the opening. Foreign institutional investors bought equities worth Rs 1,009.71 crore, while domestic institutional investors purchased Rs 9,342.48 crore on June 6. Key stocks in focus include HDFC Bank, LIC, Tata Steel, Infosys, Mahindra & Mahindra, Suzlon Energy, Bharat Electronics, and Asian Paints. Notable developments include Suzlon Energy's anticipated Rs 1,300 crore block deal, Tata Steel's plan to begin construction of a UK electric arc furnace facility in July 2025, Infosys receiving closure on a GST case involving Rs 32,403 crore, a new MoU between Bharat Electronics and Tata Electronics, and Larsen & Toubro's Rs 500 crore ESG bond issuance.
