A meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi descended into disorder on 10 July after Aam Aadmi Party councillors shouted slogans accusing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party of being anti-Dalit and failing to regularise roughly 12,000 sanitation and other contractual workers. The uproar forced the House to be adjourned for about 10 minutes soon after proceedings began. Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, a BJP leader, told reporters the corporation would resume business and that permanent status would be granted to eligible employees, blaming the disruption on what he called AAP’s habitual obstructionism. The clash underlines long-running labour and political tensions in the capital’s civic body, which has struggled to resolve demands for stable employment among its lowest-paid staff.
