Turkey is advancing its defense industry through several strategic projects and international collaborations. The country is cooperating with Spain on the development of the National Aircraft Carrier (Milli Uçak Gemisi, MUGEM) and other defense products such as the Hürjet aircraft. The first design of the TCG Anadolu aircraft carrier involved Spanish support, and the second carrier is planned for production in Istanbul. In August 2025, Turkey will deliver three Altay main battle tanks to its Land Forces, with a total of 250 tanks expected to be produced in series. Additionally, Turkey and Indonesia are strengthening their defense ties, highlighted by Indonesia’s consideration to purchase 48 Turkish KAAN fifth-generation fighter jets. The first batch of 10 KAAN jets is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2028, with ongoing production involving simultaneous manufacturing and testing of six aircraft. Turkey’s defense industry is also marked by projects like the Steel Dome air defense system. Haluk Görgün, head of Turkey’s Defense Industry Presidency (SSB), praised the country’s rapid adaptation to technological advancements in defense, describing it as "dazzling."
