Former Hamas hostage Romi Gonen was discharged on 10 July from Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer, ending almost five months of hospital treatment and rehabilitation. Gonen, 25, had been admitted shortly after her release in January with gunshot wounds and other complications that required two surgeries, with a third procedure planned in the coming months. Gonen was shot in the arm and abducted from the Nova music festival on 7 October 2023. She spent 471 days in Gaza captivity, receiving little medical care, before being freed on 19 January 2025 as part of a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Speaking on her release from hospital, Gonen called the day “another step toward my freedom” and thanked medical staff for their support. Israeli officials say roughly 50 hostages seized on 7 October remain in Gaza.
