Israel’s Interior Minister Moshe Arbel on Monday revoked the visa of Rabbi Yisroel Dovid Weiss and imposed a permanent ban on the American citizen’s entry to the country. Arbel said he would “not allow anyone who acts against the State of Israel and identifies with its enemies to enter.” Weiss, a US-born spokesman for Neturei Karta, a small ultra-Orthodox Jewish faction that rejects Zionism, met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of last week’s BRICS summit in Rio de Janeiro. According to Araghchi’s Telegram channel, Weiss also visited Iran’s embassy in Brasília, where he signed a memorial book honoring ‘martyrs’ of what the minister called Israel’s ‘brutal invasion.’ The interior minister described cooperation with Iran—Israel’s principal regional adversary—as crossing a “red line.” The move underscores Israel’s longstanding policy of denying entry to foreign activists it views as supporting hostile states or organizations.
