Iran on Monday welcomed the stance taken by the BRICS bloc at its summit in Rio de Janeiro, after the group’s Rio de Janeiro Declaration condemned recent Israeli and United States military strikes on Iranian territory. Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi said the statement represented a "strong and unequivocal" rejection of attacks that targeted civilian infrastructure and nuclear facilities, which the declaration described as violations of international law. The condemnation comes in the wake of a series of strikes that Tehran says endangered nuclear safeguards and regional security. While the declaration did not explicitly name Washington and Tel Aviv, it urged all parties to uphold nuclear safety standards during armed conflicts and backed diplomatic efforts to ease tensions. Araghchi has continued his diplomatic outreach on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s Council of Foreign Ministers in Tianjin. There he met Chinese President Xi Jinping, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar to discuss regional stability, defence of critical infrastructure and the need for dialogue in response to the recent attacks.
