Israel’s Jerusalem District Court and the state prosecution agreed on Wednesday to cancel all testimony sessions scheduled for next week in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s corruption trial, after his lawyers said he would be in Washington for a diplomatic visit. Netanyahu is due to depart on Sunday and return late next week for talks with U.S. President Donald Trump on the Gaza war, Iran and regional issues. Prosecutors asked the court to add replacement hearing dates once the prime minister is back in Israel. The 75-year-old leader has pleaded not guilty to charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust in three cases—known locally as 1000, 2000 and 4000—stemming from allegations he accepted gifts and sought favourable media coverage. The trial, which began in May 2020 following a 2019 indictment, marks the first time a sitting Israeli premier has faced criminal proceedings.
