Kenya's Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested Kennedy Kalombotole, the prime suspect in the murders of two patients at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH). Kalombotole is alleged to have killed Edward Ndegwa in February and another patient, Gilbert Kinyua, recently in ward 7b, where both victims were admitted. The second murder occurred despite prior assurances from KNH management about improved security measures. Police investigations linked Kalombotole to the crimes through bloodstains found on his hospital bed. Kalombotole had been receiving treatment at KNH for various ailments and remained at the hospital even after his discharge in January, a situation KNH has explained but which has raised questions about hospital security protocols. The suspect is set to be arraigned in court on Monday. The incidents have prompted public scrutiny and calls for accountability regarding safety at the national referral hospital.
Fresh questions have emerged following the murder of another patient at KNH, five months after the hospital management assured the public of heightened security at the giant referral facility. https://t.co/yjlyjGfVVb
