Kenyan authorities have intensified efforts to address the aftermath of the June 25 protests, which saw widespread violence, looting, and destruction. A total of 485 individuals have been arrested in connection with the unrest, with 448 charged with serious offenses including incitement, murder, terrorism, rape, arson, and destruction of state infrastructure. The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohammed Amin, stated that while many protesters participated peacefully to exercise their constitutional rights, a coordinated network of criminal actors infiltrated the demonstrations with the intent to cause chaos and destruction. Evidence suggests that some individuals were strategically mobilized and transported to Nairobi from various parts of the country to execute this agenda. Among the recovered items are firearms stolen during the protests, including an AK-47 rifle taken from Dagoretti Police Station, which was recovered in Kabete. In the wake of the protests, police have also impounded goods looted from a QuickMart supermarket in Ruiru, Kiambu County, where 154 suspects have been arrested for looting and property destruction. Meanwhile, courts have released 19 suspects linked to violence in Olkalou, Nyandarua County, on personal bonds of KES 100,000 each, with two sureties of equal amount, citing insufficient grounds for detention. Additional suspects continue to be arraigned, including 85 presented before the Thika Law Courts in Kiambu County as investigations proceed.
