A court in Olkalou, Nyandarua County, has released all 19 people arrested over the June 25 anniversary protests that turned violent in the town. Principal Magistrate Judicaster Nthuku granted each suspect a personal bond of KES 100,000 with two sureties of the same amount after ruling that prosecutors had not demonstrated sufficient grounds for extended custody. A minor among the group will be supervised under similar terms by a parent. Investigators have until a 21 July mention date to report on the progress of their inquiries. In Nairobi’s Kibera law courts, a separate proceeding kept three activists—John Mulingwa Nzau, Mark Amiani and Francis Mutunge Mwangi—in remand while the State pursues a 21-day detention application. Principal Magistrate Mercy Khahuya scheduled a ruling on bail for 2 July. The trio is under investigation for arson, burglary and other offences allegedly committed during the same nationwide protests that drew large numbers of young demonstrators.
