Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission elected Commissioner Fahima Araphat Abdallah as its Vice Chairperson during the body’s first plenary meeting on 11 July, only hours after the new leadership was sworn in at the Supreme Court in Nairobi. IEBC Chair Erastus Ethekon said the reconstituted commission will focus on delivering “free and fair elections” and combating misinformation as the country heads into a series of by-elections and begins preparations for the 2027 general vote. Ethekon urged Kenyans to work collectively for a peaceful and credible electoral process. The fully re-established commission now comprises Ethekon, Abdallah, and commissioners Ann Njeri Nderitu, Moses Alutalala Mukhwana, Mary Karen Sorobit, Hassan Noor Hassan and Francis Odhiambo Aduol.
