Kenyan President William Ruto has pledged a cash reward of 2.5 million Kenyan shillings to each player of the Harambee Stars football team if they defeat Zambia in their final Group A match of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) scheduled for Sunday at Kasarani Stadium. This bonus is an increase from an earlier promise of 1 million shillings, which the players have already received. Additionally, Ruto has promised affordable housing to the players if the team progresses past the quarter-finals. The Harambee Stars have already qualified for the quarter-finals of the tournament with a match to spare, marking their first advancement to the knockout stage of a major football competition in 38 years. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded the Kenyan team at least 58 million shillings (approximately $450,000) for reaching the quarter-finals. Ahead of the crucial match against Zambia, President Ruto has urged fans to comply with and respect CAF protocols and maintain discipline. The 2024 CHAN tournament is currently underway with several other matches and results reported, including South Africa's 2-1 victory over Guinea and Uganda's 2-0 win against Niger.
