Kenyan President William Ruto has nominated human-resources specialist Dr. Amani Yuda Komora as chairperson of the National Police Service Commission, according to a statement signed by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei. Ruto also named public-health and governance expert Angeline Yiamiton Siparo as a commissioner and proposed four additional members: Peris Muthoni Kimani, Edwin Cheluget, Benjamin Juma Imai and Prof. Collete A. Suda. The seven-member team would oversee recruitment, promotions and disciplinary matters in the police service once confirmed by Parliament. Komora previously served as vice-chair of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission and held senior human-resources posts at Kenya Ports Authority and Kenya Revenue Authority. He holds a PhD in human-resource management from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. Siparo chaired the National AIDS Control Council from 2016 to 2022 and has worked with UNAIDS and other international organisations. The National Assembly is expected to vet the nominees in the coming weeks. If approved, the new commission will replace the outgoing team whose term has expired, marking the first major overhaul of the policing oversight body since Ruto took office in 2022.
