Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has proposed Genaro Lozano Valencia as the new ambassador of Mexico to Italy, with his appointment also covering Albania, Malta, and San Marino. Lozano, an internationalist and television presenter, was nominated to replace Carlos García de Alba. His nomination received the approval of the Italian government and was submitted for ratification before the Mexican Congress. Lozano appeared before the Senate's Permanent Commission on Political and International Affairs and was ratified by a fast-track vote with 12 votes in favor and 2 against in the commission, followed by a Senate ratification with 25 votes in favor and 9 against. Despite opposition from figures such as Alito Moreno, who questioned Lozano's experience and capability to represent Mexico, Lozano expressed gratitude and commitment to serve with pride and dedication. The ratification process was completed on August 20, 2025.
