The Permanent Commission of the Mexican Congress unanimously ratified Omar Reyes Colmenares as the new head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (Unidad de Inteligencia Financiera, UIF) of the Ministry of Finance. Reyes Colmenares replaces Pablo Gómez, who now leads the electoral reform commission. Upon his ratification, Reyes Colmenares emphasized that the UIF will not be used as a tool for political persecution but will focus on combating money laundering and terrorist financing through effective results rather than rhetoric. He also pledged to collaborate closely with strategic sectors of the financial system to strengthen the UIF. Additionally, María del Carmen Bonilla was confirmed as the Undersecretary of Finance. Meanwhile, the Finance Commission of the Congress discussed bill 6576, with its president, Julio Héctor Estrada, describing the initiative as a "blank check."
