The Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE) has conducted a series of protests and marches in Mexico City throughout July 2025, involving its sections 9, 10, 11, and 60. On July 3, CNTE members organized a 24-hour strike and multiple demonstrations across several points in the capital, including a takeover of the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) building, where they demanded the removal of payroll deductions affecting over 5,000 teachers and called for meetings with SEP officials. Following a peaceful occupation lasting five hours, authorities agreed to reinstate the withheld salaries. On July 10, the CNTE marched from Hemiciclo a Juárez to the SEP headquarters in the Centro Histórico, pressing for the repeal of the 2007 ISSSTE law and opposing educational reforms. The mobilizations continued with a planned large-scale march on July 17, described as a "great mobilization" by the CNTE, aiming to culminate with the delivery of a petition letter to Mexico City’s President Claudia Sheinbaum at Palacio Nacional. This march started at 9 a.m. from the SEP headquarters and proceeded through central city streets, causing road closures and traffic disruptions. The CNTE reiterated demands including the abrogation of the ISSSTE law, restoration of benefits and bonuses, salary increases, and the fulfillment of previously unmet commitments by educational authorities. Authorities advised residents and visitors to take precautions due to expected blockades and congestion in central Mexico City during these events.
