The Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación (CNTE) has organized a series of protests and marches in Mexico City throughout July 2025, targeting key government locations such as the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP) and Palacio Nacional. On July 3, members from CNTE sections 9, 10, 11, and 60 conducted a 24-hour strike and mobilization affecting multiple areas of the capital. They resumed demonstrations on July 10, marching from the Hemiciclo a Juárez to the SEP headquarters in the Centro Histórico, demanding the repeal of the 2007 ISSSTE law and educational reforms, as well as the standardization of benefits and bonuses. The CNTE announced a major mobilization for July 17, described as a "megamarcha," which involved a march beginning at the SEP and proceeding to the Zócalo, where they intended to deliver a petition to Mexico City’s President Claudia Sheinbaum. The demands reiterated include the abrogation of the ISSSTE law of 2007, delivery of scholarships, salary increases, and other benefits. Authorities warned of traffic disruptions and road closures in affected areas, advising residents and visitors to take precautions. Despite scheduled meetings with federal educational authorities, the CNTE stated that the July 17 march would serve as a culmination of their ongoing struggle, with the possibility of continued protests in the upcoming school cycle.
