An elevator collapsed on the night of August 12 at Plaza Mítikah, a shopping center located in the Benito Juárez borough of Mexico City. Two individuals, a 47-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman, were inside the elevator at the time of the incident and sustained serious injuries to their head and cervical areas. Both were hospitalized following the accident. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene. In response to the accident, the Benito Juárez local government suspended all activities at Plaza Mítikah pending an investigation and to verify compliance with safety regulations before allowing the mall to reopen. Luis Mendoza, the mayor of Benito Juárez, stated that failures posing risks to people would not be tolerated. The incident occurred in the Colonia Xoco neighborhood, and authorities evacuated the plaza as a precautionary measure.
