North American health authorities reported a new round of measles infections, underscoring the virus’s continued spread despite high overall vaccination coverage. Texas remains the U.S. epicenter with 753 confirmed cases since late January, according to the state’s Department of State Health Services. Three infections were added in the past week and officials have documented 99 hospitalisations and two pediatric deaths, nearly all among unvaccinated people. Mexico is battling a markedly larger outbreak. Health Secretary David Kershenobich said the country has verified 2,942 cases, 95 % of them in the northern state of Chihuahua. To curb transmission, the government extended eligibility for the measles-mumps-rubella shot to adults up to 49 years old and will inoculate migrant farm workers. Authorities say 4.5 million MMR doses and 1.4 million double-viral doses are in stock. Smaller clusters continue to emerge elsewhere in the United States. Public Health – Seattle & King County confirmed two infections in a child and an adult who visited multiple public venues while contagious, bringing Washington’s 2025 tally to ten. Utah officials logged two additional cases, raising the state total to seven. Florida recorded its third case this year after an adult in Leon County contracted the virus abroad. Nationwide, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has counted 1,227 infections across 36 states so far this year, 89 % linked to defined outbreaks. CDC officials say the overall risk to the public remains low and case growth appears to be plateauing, but they caution that international travel continues to seed new chains of transmission. Health agencies are urging residents to verify that they have received the recommended two doses of the MMR vaccine, which provides about 97 % lifetime protection.
