Video from the official Canal del Congreso shows Moreno approaching Noroña while legislators still sang the national anthem, grabbing him by the arm and throwing a blow after the Morena senator had adjourned proceedings without granting Moreno a last-minute floor statement. Both men exchanged shoves and insults before security and colleagues intervened. The altercation, which unfolded in the historic Xicoténcatl building, briefly involved additional PRI lawmakers and left at least one congressional photographer on the ground, according to eyewitness accounts published by several outlets. The incident punctuated a tense three-hour debate dominated by accusations over opposition senator Lilly Téllez’s call for U.S. military intervention in Mexico. Speaking afterward, Fernández Noroña said he will file a criminal complaint against Moreno and request the Senate strip the PRI chief, and other involved legislators, of parliamentary immunity. Morena’s caucus announced it will formally seek their desafuero and asked the board to convene an urgent session to address the violence. Moreno, for his part, defended his actions, claiming he merely demanded an explanation for the abrupt end of the agenda. No injuries requiring hospitalisation were reported, but the fracas deepened partisan tensions ahead of the regular congressional period that starts 1 September.
