Mexico City Metro Line 8 Suspended 16 Hours After Flooding Hits Four Stations; Provisional RTP Transport Provided
The Mexico City Metro's Line 8 service was suspended on the evening of June 29, 2025, due to severe flooding caused by heavy rains. Water entered the tracks and platforms, particularly affecting four stations between Iztacalco and La Viga, including Coyuya. As a result, the Metro operated partially, with service limited to two segments: Garibaldi to Chabacano and Constitución de 1917 to Apatlaco. Authorities deployed provisional transportation, including RTP buses and police vehicles, to assist passengers between the affected stations, notably between Santa Anita and La Viga. The flooding reached approximately 80 centimeters above the guide rail at Coyuya station. The suspension lasted about 16 hours, severely impacting thousands of commuters. Metro officials continued pumping water and conducting technical inspections before fully restoring service shortly after midnight on July 1, 2025.
