Mexico’s Supreme Court president, Norma Lucía Piña Hernández, met on Tuesday with president-elect Hugo Aguilar Ortiz to review the hand-over of leadership at the country’s highest tribunal. The closed-door session began at 3:00 p.m. in the ministers’ dining room on the third floor of the court’s headquarters in Mexico City’s historic center and was attended by senior staff from both offices, including court official Gisela Morales González and presidential secretary Natalia Reyes Heroles. Court sources said the discussion focused on administrative and operational details of the transition, marking the pair’s second formal encounter since Aguilar’s election. Aguilar is scheduled to take the helm of the Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación on 1 September 2025, when nine newly elected justices are sworn in. He secured the presidency with roughly six million votes in the 1 June judicial elections, succeeding Piña, who pledged a “swift and orderly” transfer of responsibilities.
