Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo inaugurated the first phase of the Regional High Specialty Hospital of the ISSSTE in Acapulco, Guerrero, a public institution she described as having been nationalized. The hospital is expected to be fully operational within two months. During her visit to Guerrero, Sheinbaum emphasized the government's commitment to supporting vulnerable populations, highlighting that 13.5 million people have been lifted out of poverty in Mexico due to social programs, wage increases, and labor reforms implemented under the administration of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO). Sheinbaum also noted the government's response to the devastation caused by hurricanes Otis in 2023 and John in 2024, stressing the importance of government presence and aid in affected areas. Additionally, the federal government plans to introduce the "Café del Bienestar," a program aimed primarily at benefiting women in Guerrero. Despite these efforts, challenges remain, including 44.5 million Mexicans lacking access to healthcare services and 2.3 million poor individuals experiencing inflation above 4%, with insufficient incomes to cover basic food baskets in several states such as Durango, Nayarit, San Luis Potosí, Quintana Roo, and Aguascalientes. Critics have pointed out that official statistics may not fully capture the vulnerability faced by the population, indicating ongoing social and economic disparities.
