Residents of the Guerrero and Centro neighborhoods in Mexico City's Cuauhtémoc borough have staged multiple protests and road blockades against the relocation of designated cannabis consumption zones. The demonstrations have taken place at key locations including Eje Central at República de Cuba, Belisario Domínguez and Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas, the Glorieta de Simón Bolívar, Paseo de la Reforma near the Glorieta Violeta, and Plaza de la Conchita. Protesters argue that the new cannabis tolerance points are too close to schools and that the conditions for these zones are not being respected. The Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City has denied any increase in insecurity linked to these tolerance zones and emphasized that law enforcement will focus on detaining individuals involved in drug sales rather than criminalizing cannabis users. SSC Secretary Pablo Vázquez stated that public cannabis consumption is not criminalized, but the purchase and sale of drugs will be actively combated. These protests mark the second wave of community opposition to the designated cannabis consumption areas in these neighborhoods.
