Mexico’s new Cineteca Nacional de Chapultepec will open to the public on 15 August after an 11-month delay, federal Culture Secretary Claudia Curiel confirmed. Admission will be free for the first week as part of events marking the 2025 Día del Cine Mexicano. President Claudia Sheinbaum presided over a preview ceremony at the complex, built on the site of a former arms factory inside Chapultepec Park. She described the project as emblematic of the government’s Fourth Transformation, saying it converts a militarised area into a cultural space open to all and advances “justice in the broadest sense of the word.” The venue includes cinemas, green areas, a film school and links to nearby public transport projects such as the Cablebús and Tren El Insurgente. The government has presented the development as part of a wider plan to expand cultural infrastructure and public spaces in Mexico City.
