Authorities in Sinaloa confirmed the killing of 20 people on one of the most violent days since the internal conflict between factions of the Sinaloa Cartel, known as Los Chapitos and Los Mayitos, began in September 2024. Among the victims, five were decapitated. The violence in Sinaloa escalated further in June 2025, which recorded 241 homicides, including 212 murders and 29 bodies found in clandestine graves, marking it as the most violent month in the state's history. Since the cartel war started, there have been a total of 1,552 executions. The faction called "La Mayiza" claimed responsibility for the discovery of 20 bodies, highlighting the intensifying conflict after the capture of cartel leader El "Mayo" Zambada. The violence continued into July with four new murders reported. Meanwhile, security forces carried out coordinated operations in Querétaro and Guanajuato, arresting multiple suspects linked to organized crime groups, including two members of a Gulf Cartel cell with outstanding arrest warrants. These operations also resulted in the seizure of weapons, ammunition, drugs, and vehicles. The governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, acknowledged that crime containment efforts have not improved despite the ongoing security measures.
